Why should you Nordic Walk – what will you gain from this?
Nordic walking is quite unique in that it benefits everybody from those with medical problems to the super fit. Whatever your age, fitness level or general life goals, Nordic Walking is suitable for all fitness levels and is proven to be effective and above all enjoyable.
Nordic walking works your upper and lower body. It exercises 90% of your body’s muscles (95% if you are talking to friends in the class!) and tones your legs, buttocks, chest, shoulders and particularly the back of your arms
Nordic walking burns approximately 20% more calories than normal walking – but only if it’s done right!
It can be done anywhere, no need for hills or country paths. It is easy to learn and to keep up.
Let’s not confuse Nordic Walking with “rambling” or “trekking with poles”, both the poles and techniques are very different. Whilst both these activities utilise their poles for stability and also take some weight off the feet, only Nordic walkers use the poles for forward propulsion and exercise.
What do you need?
- a pair of Nordic walking poles – I can supply these
- shoes or trainers with flexible soles and ideally waterproof
- comfortable clothing suitable for the weather on the day, I find layers work really well.
